Dr. Emory Rittenhouse, D.O.
East Lansing
Dr. Emory A. Rittenhouse II, beloved husband, father, and friend went to be with the Lord on October 20, 2011. Emory was born in McKeesport, PA March 12, 1949. He graduated from Washington and Jefferson College in 1971 and completed his medical degree at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1974. He went into family practice medicine and opened an office in Lansing in 1975 where he practiced for 26 years. He married the love of his life Michelle "Shelly" Lessien in 1984. Together they have three beautiful girls. He was an avid golfer and huge sports fan. He loved cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers and loved to cheer on the MSU Spartans as well. Emory was a passionate physician and cared about his patients deeply. His respect for medicine and his love for helping others guided him into the brilliant physician that he was. Emory was also a devoted family man. Nothing gave him more pride and joy than his wife and three daughters. He was a wonderful father and husband who always went out of his way to make sure his family knew how much he loved and cared about them. He was so proud of his girls' accomplishments, and he never missed an opportunity to tell them. Emory's passion, commitment, and love for family, medicine, and life will continue to influence the lives of all those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents Emory A. Rittenhouse I and Ellen (Cheves) Rittenhouse; and step-mother Mary Rittenhouse. He is survived by his wife and daughters, Ashley, Allison and Anna Rittenhouse; sister Sandy Rittenhouse and brother, David (Teri) Rittenhouse. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 24, 11:00 am at the Okemos Community Church, 4734 Okemos Road, Okemos, MI with the Rev. Jeanne M. Randels officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 23, 3-6 p.m. at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 1730 East Grand River Ave., East Lansing, MI. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made to the Rittenhouse Children's Fund, c/o Summit Community Bank, 1600 Abbot Road, East Lansing, MI 48823.

I knew Emory at Frances mcClure. he was an exceptional young man, even in junior high. I was not at all surprise to see he went on to be a doctor. Everyone who knew him like him.
